Centre is a project from multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer Brayden Schmick. I am now located in Santa Fe, NM teaching and performing in all ways music. This last year I have been able to perform all around the Southwest with the Salamander Collective, Seanchaí and Tone Ranger Ensemble. I play with other various dance/improv groups and lead sound bath journeys singing and improvising on viola and other instruments.
I grew up playing viola and have always connected with the power of music and sound. At a young age, I was able to have many of what I consider spiritual experiences with playing in an orchestra and quartets. A group that breaths in rhythm and expresses their own voice in harmony all while telling a story is an amazing concept. There would be moments of such euphoria and explosions of emotions for me at concerts and rehearsals. During my time at a University I began experimenting with recording samples and editing and chopping them. I would sing and express my feelings about my thoughts on life and spiritual insights during the time and enjoyed it for personal reasons and to share with family and friends. After graduating I began to collect and grow with different instruments and also my voice which lead me to really gain inspiration for my music. When I was able to connect with Josh Gabriel, he gave me even more confidence in what I was doing. At that moment, he told me I need to release an EP. I started on 'Inner Journey' and soon after I sent him the vocal line for 'Remember' over an instrumental he gave me. I also did the string parts on Remember, Will I Change and Something Bigger. I am unbelievably excited to have both 'Remember' and 'Inner Journey' released for the world to hear my message. There is so much I wish to say on my bio and if you want to get to know me more send me a message through the contact page. Much love!
There are layers to choosing the name. During the process of creating this EP I held the belief that these songs came "through me and not from me". As much as this concept of self discovery and my readings deeply inspired me as an individual, I see this story as something beyond me. I don't want it to be about Brayden but rather about this message.
The word centre for me became a reference point to where my inspiration and ideas came from.
It also become a symbol for my aim as an individual. The centre is a balance point between two forces and balance is something I will always aspire to. Through balance one attains clarity, focus, peace and much more.
If you want to talk more about any of this please reach out. There is much more on this topic I love sharing.
